How to Generate Leads: The 4 Systems Every Solopreneur Needs for Consistent Results

What is lead generation?

Lead generation is the process of attracting potential customers and nurturing and converting them into clients.

If you want to get more clients or have more people sign up to your software or services, you need to capture attention and convert that interest into paying clients.

Essentially, leads are potential customers. Your business needs to be constantly bringing in new potential customers and leading them to buy, so you have a steady flow of clients.

Leads turn into customers! Too often business owners focus on getting more clients, which is great until the try to brainstorm ideas on how to do so…and their mind draws a blank.

They are asking the wrong question. What you should be asking is:

1) How do I grab the attention of potential buyers?

2) What do potential customers (aka leads!) need to know before they buy ?

3) How do I quickly address those buyer concerns so my leads convert?

“Getting a client” is the end result. Lead generation is the process of getting those clients. What business owners need is clarity on the process, so they know how to get the result and know who to do it repeatedly.

The importance of leads

If you are unaware that leads are critical to business growth, then increasing your revenue and growing your business will remain elusive.

You are spinning your wheels, wasting time on random “marketing” activities that don't bring in new customers or clients!

Leads are critical to every business. AND every business needs a process to generate leads. If not, you get 1 client…and the second client never comes.

Every client was once a lead.

So, if you want more clients, you have to get more leads ALWAYS!

Understanding what your lead generation (or Lead-gen) process is how you understand how to get more clients, sales, and revenue in your business.

Every business has a lead generation process.

Think about it, before purchasing any item, lets say a skincare cream, we are first unaware, a problem or advertisement arises that gets our interest or relates to your problem.

That's when you become a lead. Then you stalk- I mean research- their socials, reviews and webpage. You know become a warm lead or a "qualified" lead, because you are more primed to buy. Finally you buy the new skincare cream; now you are a lead that has converted into a buyer. Voila!

Every product, service or software business has one! Cars, handbags, SaaS, coaching, consulting, mommy & me dog spas – all have to generate leads for their business.

15 strategies to generate leads this week!

Okay! So you wanna get leads! Here are a few strategies you can use this week to bring in new clients and customers.

1. Social Listening

Pay attention to what your ideal clients are actually saying online. Look for questions, complaints, frustrations, and conversations related to the problem your business solves. This gives you real-time insight into what your audience needs and what language they're using to describe it. Then use those insights to create content, start conversations, or offer a relevant solution.

2. Build a Lead Magnet

Create something useful that solves a small but specific problem for your ideal client in exchange for their email address. It could be a checklist, template, quiz, calculator, mini-training, or short guide. The goal isn't to give away your entire business for free. It's to give the right person a reason to raise their hand and enter your world.

3. Post on Social Media

Use your social media content to attract the people who actually need what you sell. Don't post just to stay visible or rack up views. Talk about your client's problems, show them what's possible, teach them something useful, and make it clear how you can help. If you want to generate leads online, your content needs to create a path from attention to action.

4. Email Your Current List

Your email list is one of the easiest places to look for leads because these people already know who you are. Send an email that addresses a problem, shares a useful insight, highlights a client result, or makes a relevant offer. And yes, you are allowed to sell to your list. You don't need to spend 47 emails "warming them up" before mentioning that you have something they can buy.

5. Go to a Networking Event or Conference

Go where your potential clients are already gathering. Networking events, conferences, workshops, and industry meetups can create opportunities for genuine conversations with potential clients and referral partners. Don't walk in treating everyone like a walking dollar sign. Build relationships, learn about what people are working on, and follow up with the people where there's an actual fit.

6. Ask Past Clients for Referrals

Your past clients already know the quality of your work, which makes them some of your best potential referral sources. Reach out personally and let them know you're looking to work with more people who have similar needs. Be specific about who you're looking for and the problem you help solve. "Send me anyone you know" is a lot less useful than giving someone a clear picture of your ideal referral.

7. Whitelabel Your Services to an Agency

Agencies often have more clients and projects than they have the capacity to fulfill themselves. You can become the behind-the-scenes expert they hire to deliver a specific service for their clients. This can give you access to a steady stream of business without having to generate every lead from scratch yourself. Just make sure the agency relationship makes financial and strategic sense for your business.

8. Write a Blog Post

Create a useful article around a question your ideal clients are already searching for. Search-optimized content can bring potential clients to your website long after you publish it, making blogging a powerful way to generate inbound leads. Focus on solving a specific problem rather than writing a giant sales pitch disguised as a blog post. Give them enough value to trust your expertise and a clear next step if they want your help.

9. Become a Guest on a Podcast

Podcasts give you access to someone else's established audience. Look for shows your ideal clients already listen to and pitch yourself around a specific topic you can teach or discuss. Don't just pitch yourself because you "love the podcast." Give the host a compelling reason to believe their audience will get something valuable from having you on. One good appearance can put your expertise in front of hundreds or thousands of potential buyers.

10. Do a Webinar or Masterclass

Teach something that solves a meaningful problem for your ideal client and naturally connects to the service you sell. A webinar gives potential clients a chance to experience your expertise before they ever get on a sales call with you. Make the training genuinely useful, but don't be afraid to explain why the problem is more complex than they may realize. The goal is to help them understand both the problem and why your solution makes sense.

11. Upsell Past Clients or Re-sign Existing Clients

Before you go hunting for completely new leads, look at the people who have already paid you. Is there another problem you can help them solve? Can you offer an additional service, ongoing support, or a next-step engagement? Existing clients already understand your value, so the path to another sale can be much shorter. Sometimes the easiest way to increase lead generation pressure is to get more revenue from the relationships you already have.

12. Get Featured in a Publication

Pitch yourself as an expert source for publications, newsletters, websites, or industry blogs that your ideal clients read. You can respond to journalist requests, pitch article ideas, or offer expert commentary around your area of expertise. A credible feature can build authority while putting your business in front of a new audience. Just remember: the goal isn't to collect impressive logos for your website. It's to get discovered by people who could actually become customers.

13. Land a Speaking Gig

Look for opportunities to speak at conferences, virtual events, workshops, industry organizations, or community events. Speaking puts your expertise directly in front of an audience that has already gathered around a relevant topic. Choose topics that connect naturally to the problem your business solves. And make sure there's a clear next step for people who want to learn more about working with you.

14. Join a New Community

Find a community where your ideal clients are already spending time. This could be a professional group, membership community, online forum, industry organization, or local business group. Don't join with the sole mission of dropping your sales link everywhere like you're distributing flyers at a concert. Actually participate, answer questions, contribute useful ideas, and let people get to know what you do.

15. Engage With Other Creators in Your Space

Drop a thoughtful comment under your favorite content creator's post. Too often we build our businesses in isolation, when the exact people we want to connect with are already having conversations right in front of us. Add something useful to the discussion instead of commenting "Love this!" and disappearing into the internet. Consistent, genuine engagement can lead to conversations, collaborations, referrals, and new people discovering your business.

How to measure lead generation

As a solopreneur measuring your lead gen can be as simple as a Google Doc or a spreadsheet.

Avoid the trap of trying to build out a CRM, advanced dashboard, or investing in software you have no experience with.

You most likely are already generating leads in one way or another, so as an entrepreneur, it is in your best interest (save money and time) to simply document your current lead gen process and build out the tech around it SLOWLY.

To measure lead generation, create a simple Google Doc with 3 to 4 metrics that you update every single week.

Tracking the metrics is the easy part. The more nuanced part is determining what metrics to track!

Let’s walk through an example that many small business owners use to generate leads.

Let’s say that you post on Instagram, you send people to a link to book a sales call, and you close sales on a sales call. Your lead gen process is posting on Instagram and booking sales calls.

Now that you understand how you get leads and how those leads convert, you can now develop KPIs around your existing process.

A key KPI for you would be the number of sales calls booked, how many sales calls close, how many views you get on Instagram, and how many people click your link in bio.

That’s 4 metrics! It’s important to understand that having more metrics isn’t the goal.

The goal is clarity. You may think adding more metrics would be beneficial, but in reality, more metrics just create more noise, and it makes it impossible to diagnose the problem.

You ideally want three metrics that you’re looking at weekly. Five max.

Having fewer KPIs allows you to get crystal clear on what’s important in your business and what’s actually moving the needle when it comes to generating leads and getting more sales.

How to generate more leads

The best way to generate more leads is to measure your lead generation.

  1. Know your business’s lead gen process.

  2. Turn each step of your lead gen process into a KPI. For example: link clicks, new email subscribers, sales calls booked, etc.

  3. Understand what drives these KPIs up and down.

  4. Improve one KPI at a time.

When you are trying to generate more leads, it is important to change one thing at a time.

You want to try to improve only one metric at a time.

For example, if you’re trying to get more sales, instead of fixing both your landing page, your email subject lines, and your content, just fix one thing!

For example, start by adjusting your email subject lines. Do that for 30 days and see how that improves your overall sales and the amount of overall leads you generate.

When you try to change multiple things at once, you end up overwhelming yourself and run the risk of breaking your existing lead gen process. And when you break your lead gen process, you end up making less revenue and have to spend more time fixing it to get back to your previous baseline.

When you’re trying to generate more leads, use an experimental mindset: develop a hypothesis, create a test, run that test in as much isolation as possible (one KPI, one adjustment at a time), and see how that improves your results.

The best way to generate more leads is to simply understand your existing lead gen process, start measuring it with intention, and start running small experiments around one KPI.

How to generate inbound vs outbound leads

There are two types of leads: inbound leads and outbound leads.

Inbound leads are when a potential customer discovers you and becomes a client because of your content, website, referrals, SEO, or other marketing that has attracted, nurtured, and converted them into a customer.

An outbound lead is when you, as the business owner, initiate the conversation through cold email, direct outreach, networking, partnerships, or event marketing.

Both inbound lead generation and outbound lead generation are effective ways to generate sales. And nearly every marketing tactic falls under either inbound lead generation or outbound lead generation.

Inbound Lead Generation Tactics:

  • Content marketing

  • Social media marketing

  • SEO and blogging

  • Lead magnets

  • Email marketing

  • Webinars and masterclasses

  • Podcast appearances

  • Referrals

  • Speaking engagements

  • Community participation

Inbound marketing works by putting your business in places where potential customers can discover you, learn from you, and eventually decide they want to work with you. Instead of personally reaching out to every potential customer, you're creating marketing assets and experiences that bring the right people into your business.

Outbound Lead Generation Tactics:

  • Cold DMs

  • Cold email outreach

  • Networking

  • Partnerships

  • Conferences and events

  • Direct sales outreach

  • Speaking opportunities

  • Agency partnerships

  • Referral requests

For Outbound marketing instead of waiting for someone to discover your business, you go find the people who could be a good fit and start the conversation. This can be especially useful when you need to generate leads quickly or when your audience isn't actively searching for the solution you provide.

Whichever lead generation tactic you choose depends on your personal preference, your audience, offer, strengths, capacity, and how quickly you need to generate leads. That's why it's important to understand both types of lead generation and build a strategy that actually works for your business.

How to generate leads consistently

Okay, but how do you do all this CONSISTENTLY?

Because you are a solopreneur or have a small team, things fall through the cracks often.

Which is why some months you're booked and so busy you're working through dinner, but other months you barely have any projects and you're scrambling to find your next client.

This unstable revenue is what’s called the “Revenue Rollacoaster". This happens because when you stop marketing consistently leads dwindle down.

Think about it. Your attract leads, convert them into sales and generate revenue.

Leads → Sales → Revenue

So when your leads become inconsistent, down the line, your revenue becomes inconsistent too.

The fix is simple, generate a consistent stream of leads so you can make consistent sales & revenue.

At Growthalista, I break this down into three core systems: the Marketing Mix, the Sales-Verified Vault, and the Lead Gen Engine.

Your Marketing Mix determines where and how you're going to consistently get in front of the right people.

Instead of trying to be everywhere or following whatever marketing tactic is trending this week, you choose the channels and marketing activities that fit your audience, strengths, business, and capacity.

This way you can market consistently and sustainably,

Next, your Sales-Verified Vault is where you systematically test your marketing, messaging, and positioning to build a library of proven assets that attract the right leads and convert them into sales.

You're not guessing what to say every time you sit down to create content.

You're learning what gets attention, what creates conversations, what attracts qualified leads, and what actually helps people buy. Now, that you are showing up consistently in the right places with your Marketing Mix, with your Sales Vault you know exactly what content will generate leads for your business.

As a solopreneur you don't want to fall into the trap of “posting just to post” or become an influencer with views and no sales. You want to pull from a vault of content thats proven to generate sales based on past success!

Finally, your Lead Gen Engine turns what's working into a repeatable system.

Instead of generating leads randomly when you have time, you create a process you can repeat every week and every month.

That's what makes lead generation & revenue more predictable and helps you stop starting from zero every time your client work slows down.

If you want to generate leads consistently, you need to market consistently (Marketing Mix), find the content that converts (Sales-Verified Vault), and build a repeatable system to execute every month (Lead Gen Engine).

4 Systems Every Solopreneur Needs for Consistent Leads

1.Marketing Process

What is your marketing strategy? Who are your clients? What are their pain points? Where can you consistently reach them?

Having a marketing process that works for you and your clients is important. Not the "post 5x a day" advice an Instagram guru gave you, but your process for creating content, nurturing leads, and converting them for your business.

2.Project management tool

Know what you need to do every day, week, and month to get leads in the door. Don't leave it up to memory. Understand your priorities quickly with a project management tool with a monthly checklist you can copy and paste every month/week.

Create monthly and weekly checklists in your favorite tool  that you can copy and paste instead of reinventing the wheel every Month. That will make your priorities obvious and your lead generation repeatable.

3.Sales System

How do you collect payment?

Seems simple, but most small business owners rely on manual payment processes. Instead of having a solid website and checkout that customers can use when you are ASLEEP, avoid the small-business trap of making every sale dependent on you being available.

Your sales system should make it easy for a qualified lead to take the next step, whether that's booking a call, purchasing an offer, signing a contract, or submitting payment.

If someone is ready to buy,  your process shouldn't require 5 back-and-forth emails, a custom invoice, and you manually sending them a payment link... you have created unnecessary friction between "I want this" and "here's my money."

Having a sales system will close sales faster, reduce boring admin work, and prevent leads from falling through the cracks!

4.Tracking

Yep! You need to measure your performance.

As we mentioned before, measuring your leads is one of the best ways to increase your lead generation. Have a spreadsheet or simple dashboard you can quickly pull up and view.

Don't have it buried in some obscure software you don't know how to use! Tracking and reviewing your dashboard will help you generate leads consistently and increase your revenue. Having the data to know where you are at, helps you steer your business to your next revenue goal.

Which is the best way for YOU to generate leads in your business

There is so much conflicting advice online on “how to increase your revenue”, “how to generate more leads” and “make more money”.

Some people say you should post daily on Instagram to generate leads.

Some people swear by spending $5 a day on ads.

Some people say you should start a podcast, launch a YouTube channel, write a blog post every week, or attend every networking event in your city.

The TRUTH is….

They all work.

That’s probably not what you want to hear (or read). Because it doesn't narrow down your to-do list at all!  And it doesn't provide clarity on…

Which one should you pick to generate leads in your business?

The answer is whichever one makes SUSTAINABLE sense for your business.

Your ideal lead generation strategy should account for your audience, offer, strengths, personality, available time, energy, and capacity.

If you hate being on video, building your entire strategy around daily video content probably isn't going to create a sustainable system.

If your clients aren't hanging out on Instagram, posting more often isn't going to magically make them appear. And if you need leads quickly, relying exclusively on SEO may not be the fastest path.

The best strategy is the one you can execute consistently and that gives you access to your fast-buying and highest paying clients!.

You don't need to use every lead generation tactic available to you. You need the right combination of tactics, connected to a system that you can actually maintain.

Because you don't want to try a bunch of tactics and  generate a lead one time. You want to be able to repeat those tactics and generate more leads over time.

Having a sustainable strategy you can repeat every month is how you generate leads consistently. When you have consistent leads, you can build a business with predictable revenue and give yourself a stable income.

Conclusion

If you want to generate more leads in your business so you can increase your revenue, the answer isn't to add 55 more marketing tactics to your to-do list (Lets be honest, right now, you barely have time for 1 post!)

You already have plenty of tactics. You need to turn those tactics into a system.

You need a Marketing Mix that consistently puts your business in front of the right people, a Sales-Verified Vault that helps you understand what messaging actually attracts and converts qualified leads, and a Lead Gen Engine that turns what's working into a repeatable process.

Which may seem like a lot, right now.

So, before you start changing your strategy, adding another marketing channel, or throwing more content at the problem, you need to know what's actually blocking your lead generation right now.

Is your marketing too inconsistent? Are you attracting people who aren't qualified or ready to buy? Is your messaging failing to convert attention into leads? Or do you simply not have a reliable system for generating leads in the first place?

That's the first thing you need to figure out.
